Farm Description: Songbird Haven Farm is a mixed vegetable farm on in Rochester, WA. The farm is owned and managed by Noa Kay and Mark Albonizio. We farm using organic no-till practices that rely on compost, diverse crops, and quick crop changes. This is Songbird Haven Farm’s seventh season and our first year at our new farm site. PART-TIME FARM CREW
Position Description: Under the supervision of the farm manager, the Farm Crew will focus on harvesting, washing, and packing produce. The position will be 12-18 hours/week. We will have shifts available on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays beginning promptly at 8am. Optional additional hours may be available at busy times during the season. This position requires attention to detail, care to follow food safety best practices, and efficient use of time.
The Farm Crew will also participate in field tasks including seeding, transplanting, weeding, and bed preparation as time allows. There will be detailed training and many learning opportunities throughout the season.
We try to farm smart and take care of our bodies but it is important to understand that farming is a physically demanding job. Farm Crew members should have recent experience (and enjoy!) being physically active all day.
Schedule, Compensation, and Benefits:
* The farm crew will have regular hours, 12-18 hours per week, shifts available on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings April – October, starting at 8am
* $18-20/hour, depends on experience
* Sick leave – accrued at 1 hour/40 hours worked
* Vegetables from the farm
Primary Duties
* Harvesting
* Cleaning the wash/pack area before and after harvest
* Adhering to food safety protocols
* Transplanting, weeding, bed preparation
Qualifications
* Ability to do physical labor in all weather conditions
* Willingness to learn
* Experience mastering new skills and asking clarifying questions
* Attention to details, especially with regards to food safety and produce quality
* Work efficiently and with purpose to complete tasks on time
* Farming experience is a plus but not required. Other relevant experience working with produce could include gardening, working in restaurants, or retail food outlets.
Safety
* We take food and worker safety seriously
* We provide training on the proper use of tools and food safety measures
* We expect employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19 and communicate clearly if they are not feeling 100%.

FLEX CREW
Position Description: The flex crew is a group of folks who are not available on a regular basis but are interested in shifts at the farm as they are available. Under the supervision of the farm manager, the Flex Crew will focus on field tasks such as seeding, transplanting, weeding, and bed preparation. This position is perfect for someone who is interested in farming but has other commitments or wants to try it out.
We try to farm smart and take care of our bodies but it is important to understand that farming is a physically demanding job. Farm Crew members should have recent experience (and enjoy!) being physically active all day.
Schedule, Compensation, and Benefits:
* The schedule varies, we try send out a list of available shifts at least a week ahead of time, shifts typically start at 8am
* $18/hour
* Sick leave – accrued at 1 hour/40 hours worked
* Vegetables from the farm
