Songbird Haven Farm 2021-2022 Winter CSA Membership Agreements – Green Lake and Shoreline

CSA

The Songbird Haven Farm CSA uses a traditional CSA share model.

By making a commitment to purchase produce in the beginning of the season you enable our farm to cover the early season expenses needed to grow the delicious and diverse variety of vegetables you’ll receive throughout the fall and winter.

In turn, we commit to working hard to grow beautiful veggies using organic practices that improve soil health. We provide you with six vegetable shares filled with 6-8 items. In the Winter CSA you’ll get a mix of storage, dried, and fresh vegetables.

Sharing Risk and Rewards

There are many uncertainties inherent in producing food. Pests, weather, and seed variation can all impact our production. For example, snow might be great to protect the spinach from pests but may mean that our lettuce crop doesn’t survive.

As a CSA member, you’ll experience those highs and lows with us. When there is bounty, you’ll receive it in your boxes. However, if a crop doesn’t thrive, we won’t be able to provide it.

We grow a wide variety of crops to be as resilient as possible.

Pick Up Locations and Dates

We have three pick up locations:

  • Greenlake (in Seattle near 65th and Woodlawn Ave N)
  • Meridian Park (in Shoreline near 165th and Meridian Ave N)
  • Ridgecrest (in Shoreline at the Drumlin)

Pick ups are on Sunday evenings between 5pm-8pm. There are 6 CSA share deliveries between November and March. Please make sure the following dates work for you before signing up.

Pick up calendar:
* Nov 7
* Nov 21
* Dec 5
* Jan 9
* Feb 13
* Mar 20

Splitting the CSA

We encourage those who are new to CSAs, who have their own garden, or aren’t sure they can use a full share to split the CSA with a friend or neighbor. You must coordinate who picks up each time.

We’re happy to send the newsletter to both households. You can provide all email addresses that should receive the newsletter during the online registration process.

Missed Pick-ups

Our aim is to get farm fresh veggies to you. We keep your produce fresh by harvesting close to delivery and keeping them cool in a walk-in cooler. We don’t have cold storage once we leave the farm, so we cannot accommodate alternative pick up arrangements.

If you cannot pick up your bag, you can ask a friend to pick it up for you. All bags not picked up by 8pm on Sunday will be donated.

Payment

The CSA costs $180 (by check or Venmo) or $186 (by credit card). We charge a higher price to pay by credit card to offset the 3% fees for credit card processing.

We rely on the commitment of CSA members to plan our production schedule. Once a share is purchased, there are no refunds, either full or partial, for CSA memberships. If you are unable to continue receiving your share for whatever reason, you are free to cancel your membership at any time, or transfer it to another person, but you will not receive a refund. If you would like to transfer your membership to another person, it is your responsibility to find a substitute member and email us at hello@songbirdhavenfarm.com with the new person’s contact information.

Bags

We deliver each week’s share in insulated bags that are reused throughout the season. Please return the prior week’s bag at the next pick up so that we have enough bags to pack the next share. To reduce waste and costs we’d love to use these bags for many years – thanks for returning them and taking good care of them.

We wash and sanitize bags before the next use. Please remove all produce from the bags before returning them.

Some CSA members have found it easiest to bring another reusable bag or backpack to the pick up location so that they can transfer the veggies to their own bags and leave the insulated bag behind.

CSA Newsletter

Each pick up week you’ll get an email with the expected produce, recipes, storage and preserving tips, and news from the farm. We welcome feedback. Let us know what other information would be helpful.
